Post-stall flow control with upstream flags

چکیده
Abstract The post-stall flow control using compliant flags of varying thickness and length, placed upstream a NACA0012 airfoil, was shown to be possible at an airfoil chord Reynolds number 100,000. flag wakes produced substantial increase in the stall angle maximum lift coefficient optimal cross-stream locations from wake centerline. Oscillating could generate periodic with better spanwise coherence than stationary bluff body. This resulted excitation, formation shedding leading-edge vortices periodically, providing mean enhancement. There is range mass ratio for which frequency coincides natural vortex instability or its subharmonic baseline wake. dimensionless function only, can predicted by reduced order model limit very large modified free-streamline theory separated flow. also frequency. Flow Control With EHD Actuators in Middle Post Stall Regime
We analyze the modifications of the flow around a NACA 0015 airfoil when the flow is perturbed with an electrohydrodynamic (EHD) actuator. The device used consists of two bare electrodes flush mounted on the surface of the model operated in a discharge regime characterized by the formation of a plasma sheet contouring the body in the interelectrode space. In this study, we analyze the influence...
متن کاملSplitting the Control Flow with Boolean Flags
Tools for proving the absence of run-time errors often deploy a numeric domain that approximates the possible values of a variable using linear inequalities. These abstractions are adequate since the correct program state is often convex. For instance, if the upper and lower bound of an index lie within the bounds of an array, then so do all the indices inbetween. In certain cases, for example ...

متن کاملOn the Effect of Tip Vortices in Low-Reynolds-Number Post-Stall Flow Control
We numerically investigate the application of steady blowing to three-dimensional stalled flows around low-aspect-ratio rectangular flat-plate wings at a Reynolds number of 300. The objective of this study is to explore techniques to enhance lift by directly modifying the dynamics of the wake vortices. Out of various combinations of forcing location and direction considered, we identify two con...
متن کاملAdaptive Control of Post-Stall Separated Flow Application to Heavy Vehicles
This paper discusses two adaptive feedback control approaches designed to reattach a massively separated flow over a NACA airfoil with minimal control effort using piezoelectric synthetic jet actuators and various sensors for feedback. One approach uses an adaptive feedback disturbance rejection algorithm in conjunction with a system identification algorithm to develop a reduced-order dynamical...
